Attendance Policy

Your presence in class is crucial for a good performance. Students are admonished to keep meticulous records of their own attendance, and they are responsible to see me about changing the attendance record if they are marked absent due to tardiness. The attendance policy is as follows:

The above attendance policy does not apply during the summer term. The summer attendance policy will be discussed in class.

Grading Scale

Learning Disabilities

If you have a learning disability, you need first to visit the Academic Affairs Office at the very beginning of each semester to get the necessary documentation for whatever helps you may need.  It is expected after that, that the student will approach me to work out those arrangements.  These need to be addressed and resolved at least 48 hours prior to each exam and/or due date; otherwise the student will work under the same conditions as the remainder of the class.

Make-up Policy

Make-up tests are highly discouraged but will be given to those students with well-documented excuses (i.e. - serious illness, family emergency, college-approved activity). Make-up tests are to be taken no later than one week after your return and will be administered after I have granted permission.

As a general rule, quizzes and pretests cannot be made up. Exceptions to this policy will be noted in the particular course syllabus.

The above make-up policy does not apply during the summer term. The summer make-up policy will be discussed in class.

Office Hours

Students are encouraged and welcome to come to my office to review tests, get help preparing a writing project, or whatever might be on their minds. Whenever students see that I am in my office, they are free to stop in.  I am generally on campus between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., with the exception of Fridays.  Meetings and other responsibilities do take me away from my office at times and, therefore, it may be necessary to set an appointment.

During the summer term, I do not maintain regular office hours. Rather, I ask that students make appointments if they want to speak with me. As always, students are encouraged to make appointments as often as they wish.

Cell Phones

Cell phones are marvelous inventions of the modern era, but as with all good things, some people make poor use of the good.  It is my policy that cell phones be turned off and put in pockets or backpacks and kept there throughout the entirety of the class period.  I reserve the right to remove a student from the class for the day or for the semester should bad habits surface and persist.
