(Mostly) Rail Transit Pictures:
System Type Index

This list attempts to include all fixed-guideway transit systems in the U.S. and Canada, including ones that I have not yet visited, except in some categories noted below. Please let me know if I have omitted anything.

Except for the last two sections, these systems provide public service between distinct locations, and are not mainly oriented towards tourists (or at least historically were not intended as such). Intramural systems include airport peoplemovers and similar systems which connect different parts of a single site or campus, and systems which provide access to specific sites such as museums and other tourist attractions.

The distinctions made here between "heavy rail", "light rail" and "commuter rail" are the ones that I think are customary in the United States. A few systems are listed in more than one category.
