Charlotte Trolley: 2001—04

Description

These pictures show the Charlotte Trolley during 2001—04, while it was using the new track, but still with a towed diesel-electric generator.

Pictures

[February 2003] | [March 2003] Car #85 lays over in front of the carbarn at Atherton Mill.

[February 2003] #85 starts down the spur track towards Tremont Avenue.

[March 2003] #85 passes the Tremont Avenue station just after leaving the "mainline" on its way back to Atherton Mill.

[January 2002] A view of car #85 running alongside Camden Road, with the uptown Charlotte skyline in the distance. After this picture was taken, this stretch was extensively landscaped, making it difficult to see the trolley.

[August 2001] #85 crosses East Boulevard on the first day of service on the newly-rebuilt track.

[March 2003] Again we're at East Boulevard, looking back towards the vantage point of the preceding picture. Compare this with the same viewpoint in June 1997!

[February 2003] #85 passes one of the newly-installed support poles for overhead wire along Camden Road between East Blvd. and Park Avenue; the wire has not been installed yet.

[February 2003] | [March 2003] Two views of #85 at the newly-built Park Avenue station, which was removed when the line was double-tracked for Lynx service during 2006—07.

[January 2002] A side view of #85 and its generator, south of Bland Street.

[May 2002] #85 passes a siding under construction south of Bland Street.

[January 2002] #85 at the Bland Street station, whose shelter was relocated from the Stonewall location when construction on the Westin hotel began, and the route was cut back to the south side of I-277 at Morehead Street.

[January 2002] Looking north from Bland Street, with the Morehead Street overpass and the uptown skyline in the background. The ground was still bare, but was later landscaped.

[March 2003] Looking north from Bland Street again, from the other side of the track. The landscaping is now in place, but a new condominium blocks the view of the skyline.

[February 2003] Looking south down the track from the Morehead Street overpass. The Bland Street station is visible in the distance. Note the new condominium which is not visible in the preceding picture, taken about a year earlier.

[February 2003] #85 passes under the Morehead Street overpass, with the new Westin hotel in the background.

[May 2002] #85 crosses the I-277 bridge just north of Morehead Street, where a station is under construction.

[March 2003] Ten months later, #85 stops at the nearly-complete Morehead Street station.

[December 2001] A side view of the bridge over the I-277 freeway, with Ericsson (now Bank of America) Stadium in the distance. The bridge has since been remodeled twice.

[October 2002] #85 lays over at the north end of the I-277 bridge. Passengers boarding and alighting here had to use a pathway along the north edge of the Westin hotel construction site, to reach College Street (to the left).
