We offer PPP dialup modem access to the campus network for faculty, staff and off-campus students who need it, at no charge. Students who live on campus are not eligible for this because they have broadband access in their dorm rooms.
To arrange for a login ID and password for the modems, contact Carolyn Wright, x8218.
How you configure your computer for dialup access depends on which operating system you are using, and which version. Here are the parameters:
Phone number: 938-6695.
Account name: same as your e-mail account name.
Password: you will be given this; it will probably be different from your e-mail password.
Tell your software to configure network parameters (such as the IP address) dynamically using PPP (rather than manually). This option may be listed as "DHCP". Nevertheless, you still need to specify the two items below.
Domain Name Servers: 10.16.1.10 and 10.228.1.37; the first is the primary name server, the others are backups.
Search Domain: presby.edu
Under Macintosh OS X 10.3, open the System Preferences application and choose Network. Next to Show: choose your modem. On the PPP tab, enter the phone number, account name and password. On the TCP/IP tab, enter the domain name servers and search domain, and next to Configure IPv4:, choose Using PPP.
