The Undiscouraged Sigma Nu
On the morning of September 27th, the brothers of Sigma Nu fraternity woke up with more on their agendas than just going to Wednesday classes. They picked up an order of one-hundred, one-dozen Krispy Kreme doughnut boxes, set up a table outside of Springs Student Center, and sold the glazed pastries to hungry students. " Doughnuts for Diplomas" was an effort initiated by Dr. Jerman Disasa, the faculty advisor for the PC's Zeta Theta chapter of Sigma Nu. All of the $500 profit went towards helping a young Ethiopian earn a high school diploma. The brothers will soon be notified as to who the Ethiopian will be, and plan to stay in contact with him or her as he or she goes through high school. |
Facing a closed house this fall semester, the undeterred brothers of Sigma Nu have focused their energy on serving the community and the world. " The fraternity has made an effort to view its situation as an opportunity to shine," explains Ben Eldridge, Sigma NuÃs treasurer. The chapterÃs activities of late have included selling blue-dots during the weekend, tutoring with the Jerusalem Antioch Healing Church in Laurens, and working alongside Habitat for Humanity. In addition, the brothers have made discussions about risk reduction and accident prevention a priority during meetings. Sigma Nu will be open for rush and plans on having a successful season.
