Kappa Alpha's
Beta Pi Chapter is located on the beautiful campus of Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina. Although the active brotherhood varies from year to
year, Beta Pi usually remains approximately 40 members
strong and is normally responsible for
intiating 15 men per academic year.
Rush takes place only once per year, in the Fall semester, although transfers and spring rushees are occasionally accepted as pledges under the PC and national guidelines for limited Spring Rush. Summer Rush is held each year, and it gives incoming freshmen an opportunity to introduce themselves to the brothers of Beta Pi. It takes a very special person to be able to complete their training as a squire in The Order and graduate into the rank of knighthood. It takes someone dedicated to enriching not only their college experience, but also their life afterwards, as the ideals learned continue on well past graduation. It takes someone willing to exert every effort to live their life honorably and true, as success is never handed out, but earned. It takes someone who understands that there is also a time to play and be social, since success means nothing unless it is enjoyed.
The Order can be defined as a group
of men bound together by one aim, one goal. We are more than just a fraternity;
we are Christian Knights pledged to the highest ideals of character and
achievement. Kappa Alpha began in
1865 at Washington College (now Washington & Lee College) in Lexington, Va. KA's national
headquarters are still located in Lexington. Robert Edward Lee, best known for commandeering Confederate troops during America's
Civil War, is Kappa Alpha's spiritual founder, and the brothers of Kappa Alpha
Order adhere to both the teachings of and ideals espoused by General
L
ee. Moderation, self
control, duty, sincerity, consideration of others, courage, special regard for
ladies, courtesy, honor, deep
religious conviction: these traits and more define a KA man.
We, the Beta Pi chapter of The Order, take great pride in being one of the leading chapters in the nation. Beta Pi was chartered in 1924 by six distinguished gentlemen: Bailey, Mason, Knowles, Robinson, Player, and Bomar. Since then, our chapter has acquired numerous awards, including the Ammen 12 different years (for being the among the top 15% of the 125 chapters in the nation), and the George C. Marshall award (for being one of the top 3 chapters in the nation). Year after year, we endure in numerous school, service, and social events on and off campus. In 2001, Beta Pi was awarded the President's Cup (Best Overall Fraternity) for the second year in a row, along with the Educational Programming, Collegiate Involvement, and Service Awards; proving that hard work and organization are also an important part of fraternity life, as well as its' obvious social benefits. The combination of being a Beta Pi KA, provides a sense of unique brotherhood, which strive to uphold the teachings of those initiated before us: tradition, unity, and sound moral character.
