Minor in Computer Science

Overview

The purpose of the minor in computer science is to provide the student with a sufficient foundation to apply computer science to another discipline or to pursue computer science itself within some other context.  As computers become more and more integrated into other disciplines, a minor in computer science becomes more and more applicable to a variety of careers.

Requirements (Note: see the PC course catalog for an official listing)

The minor requires 18 hours of computer science courses including

• CSC 231 or 241 (Program Design I)
• CSC 232 or 242 (Program Design II)
• remainder as CSC electives (includes essentially any CSC course)

Some examples of electives often used for the minor:

• CSC 201 - Introduction to Microcomputers
• CSC 202 - Intermediate Microcomputer Applications
• CSC 308 - Graphics Programming and Animation
• CSC 333 - Database Design
• CSC 458 - Network and Systems Administration
