The Profession
Nurses are in high demand due to the increasing complexity and growth of the health
care system. Nurses are now required to be technically competent and well-informed
about medical methods and procedures. Due to the direct and constant contact with
patients and interaction with other health professionals, nurses need good interpersonal
and communication skills.
Career Options
Hospitals, home health care, hospice, nursing homes, industry, free-standing nursing
units, and independent practice.

Students who are interested in nursing have two options. They can complete
their pre-nursing requirements at PC and, after two years, transfer to a school
that grants a bachelor of science in nursing to complete their training.
Alternatively, students can complete a four year degree at PC, and then begin
an accelerated masters in nursing graduate program at the Medical University of
South Carolina.
