District Foundation News
Past District Governor Henry F. Fishburne, of Charleston,
SC, was selected by the Carolinas District Kiwanis Foundation’s Board of Directors
to be President for 2003-2004. He succeeds Edwin L. Yancey, Sr., of Greenville,
NC, who has served in that role for the past two years. The Board of Directors
met August 15th, 2003, during the Carolinas District Annual Convention.
Fishburne has served the Foundation as a member of the Executive
Committee for the past 5 years. He and his wife Cheryl have added several thousand
dollars to the Foundation’s endowment by organizing and conducting the Caring
Corner at District’s annual conventions
and mid-winter conferences.
In other action, the Board elected Past District Governor
Bill Wiggs to serve a three year term on the CDKF Executive Committee, re-elected
Mary Blaylock to a second three year term, and continued J. H. “Jim” Daniels,
III as Secretary/Treasurer.
Yancey reported to the Directors that the CDKF had assisted
the Western Region of the Carolinas District in the successful completion of
the Kiwanis Family Care Center Project. Use of the Foundation’s Carl B. Hyatt
award raised approximately $300,000 of the $350,000 committed to the project.
The Foundation provided grants of $20,000 and received and disbursed all funds
donated for the project.
The Foundation approved the use of the Carl B. Hyatt Fellowship
as a fund raising tool for the Victory Junction Gang Camp Project and provided
a $6000 grant toward the $250,000 goal. Another $5,000 has been provided to
match grants from the Kiwanis International Foundation and the Carolinas District
Past Lieutenant Governors Council for Key Club and Circle K college scholarships.
Ten $1,000 scholarships have been awarded.
Clubs, divisions, and the District have received over $9,000
in grants for new projects, sponsored youth activities, and Terrific Kids.
