Rapid Transit Systems

This includes traditional "heavy rail rapid transit" operations, of which New York's subway is the most famous example in the USA. Distinguishing features include long electric multiple-unit trains, usually powered by a third rail; high-platform stations; fare collection at stations and not on trains; and frequent service (20-minute headways or less).
